Letter to Congress to Protect Social Security/Medicare/Medicaid
Dear Congressman,
It seems the torch for our beloved Statue of Liberty is waning in its brightness as no longer do you we hear the call to “Bring me your poor, your tired.. send me the homeless” as Congress threatens to close that golden door. Gentlemen and ladies, your lack of affirmative action toward progression as a Nation that has been held in esteem as a refuge for all for a brighter future has diminished the light that once made our country great.
It has already been established that health and sustenance are a right not a privilege just by nature of the laws put into place less than one half a century ago to provide those poor, tired and homeless with medical assistance and income in order to survive. You now are threatening your constituents their constitutional rights.
Sadly, it was neglect on the part of Congress to address issues already established as necessary matters to remedy. Yes, that is a key word, remedy, not remove. Upon establishment of Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security the systems founders warned that things do not always work out as planned. Hence, it was implied that changes to the system would need to continue to be made over time to make the program effective. It is Congress that has failed the American people in this regard, not the programs. The programs initial plan was to set up a system of rehabilitation, to provide a basis to enable, rather than condemn to a life of being disabled, the recipients to become productive contributors to society. The system is not currently achieving this goal. It seems that persons deserving are being denied while persons who know how to play the game who are not deserving are soaking it dry.
The system should not just be axed, that will only contribute to further economic strain as a flux of person not prepared to enhance the economy are thrust into the streets. Millions of persons without healthcare will diminish the economy further as they join the ranks with no means of contributing to the overall well being of our economy and nation.
It should come as no surprise that the American Medical Association led a behind the scenes campaign when these programs ideas were introduced and likely, disgruntled physicians and those being caught for abusing the system could be traced to again be the culprit attempting to deny the American people their right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.
We implore you, who are there to represent us and speak for us, to then perform that duty. We, the American people, are coming to you and demanding you protect what has already been established as our right. Fix what is broken and can be repaired, don’t discard us, enable us to be part of the great nation. Do what you promised when you implemented the program, give us the means to pursue our dreams through our own accomplishments.
